‘Music as a furniture’ was an ambient music project inspired by Matsumiya’s constant travels playing music – and her ongoing attempts to find small pieces of home everywhere she went. With Music as a furniture, she created music meant to set the atmosphere for the rooms she visits. In a way, the music serves as the furniture, the final element to complete or elevate an otherwise barren room. Music as a furniture was made for hotel rooms and other spaces that seem pre-fabricated, or lacking in dimension, as a means to provide that extra dimension, the sonic equivalent of a warm bed or a comfortable couch.

In 2010, Music as a furniture served as the sonic landscape for Absolut Vodka 30 Days New York pop-up gallery curated by Spike Jonze and Family Bookstore.
